, , Leave a comment

Motorists traveling between Marion and Baxter counties should prepare for temporary closures on Highway 178 across Bull Shoals Dam.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close Highway 178 across the dam from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5.

The closures are necessary for crews to perform routine maintenance on Bull Shoals Dam. The work and closure schedule are weather permitting.

USACE officials said the closures have been coordinated with local emergency management officials and law enforcement agencies.

Motorists traveling to locations north of the dam closure will be required to follow a detour from Highway 178 through Lakeview to Highway 5 south through Midway. Drivers will then take Highway 126 south through Gassville, Highway 412 west through Flippin and return to Highway 178 through Bull Shoals.

Motorists traveling to locations south of the dam closure will follow the route in the opposite direction. Drivers will travel on Highway 178 through Bull Shoals, Highway 412 east through Flippin, Highway 126 north through Gassville and Highway 5 north through Midway before returning to Highway 178.

Drivers should allow additional travel time, use caution along the detour and watch for changing traffic conditions.
