For nearly half a century, Cave City has built a national reputation for producing some of the sweetest watermelons in the world, a tradition that will once again take center stage as the 46th Annual Cave City Watermelon Festival Parade rolls through downtown Saturday morning.
This year’s parade carries special significance as the community honors the Johnson Brothers, Gary and Phillip Johnson, recipients of the 2026 Cave City Area Chamber of Commerce Legacy Award, for 50 years of serving the Cave City community and helping make the area’s world-famous watermelon a symbol of Arkansas agriculture.

The Johnson Brothers will serve as Grand Marshals of the parade, leading one of the festival’s most beloved traditions while being recognized for five decades of dedication, hard work and commitment to the community.
For generations, visitors from across Arkansas and beyond have traveled to Cave City seeking the area’s legendary sweet watermelon. Throughout those years, the Johnson Brothers have become synonymous with quality, hospitality and hometown pride, helping strengthen Cave City’s reputation as the Watermelon Capital of Arkansas.
Their recognition as the 2026 Chamber Legacy Award recipients celebrates not only their business success, but also their lasting impact on the community and the agricultural heritage that has defined Cave City for decades.
The parade begins Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m., with lineup beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Cave City Middle School parking lot.
This year’s parade theme, “Patriotic Watermelons,” promises colorful floats, marching bands, civic organizations, businesses, antique vehicles and community groups celebrating both America and Cave City’s famous watermelon tradition.
Floats will be judged, and participants will receive parade numbers during check-in that must be displayed on each entry.
The annual parade serves as one of the signature events of the Watermelon Festival, showcasing the community spirit that has made Cave City one of Arkansas’ premier festival destinations for 46 years.
Following the parade, thousands of visitors are expected to enjoy a full day of festival activities, including the FREE Watermelon Feast, the Prize Watermelon Auction, carnival rides, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, family activities and live entertainment throughout downtown.
The celebration concludes Saturday night with a FREE concert by country music star Sammy Kershaw, providing a memorable finale to another successful Cave City Watermelon Festival.
Families are encouraged to arrive early to secure a good viewing location along the parade route and help celebrate a community that has proudly shared some of the sweetest watermelons in the world with generations of visitors.
