The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man following the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy Tuesday evening.
Deputies responded at approximately 6:06 p.m. on July 7 to the 24000 block of Highway 107 after receiving reports of a shooting. When deputies arrived, they found 7-year-old Everett Deaver suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
MEMS transported Everett to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators arrested 31-year-old Michael Deaver, who is facing 1 count of manslaughter and 3 counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor in connection with the incident.
The Jacksonville North Pulaski School District confirmed Everett was a student at Bayou Meto Elementary School and released a statement expressing its condolences.
“It is with profound sadness that the Jacksonville North Pulaski School District shares the loss of one of our Bayou Meto Elementary scholars, seven-year-old Everett Deaver.
Everett was a cherished member of our Titan family, and our hearts are with his family, friends, classmates, teachers and everyone who knew and loved him.
Counselors and support staff will be available to assist scholars and employees as they grieve this tremendous loss when school resumes.
We ask our community to keep Everett’s family in your thoughts and to respect their privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”
The district says counselors and support staff will be available for students and employees when classes resume.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting.
