, , Leave a comment

Target has announced a nationwide voluntary recall of several Up & Up brand baby wipes products after testing identified possible bacterial contamination that could pose serious health risks to infants and young children.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the affected products may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli. Officials say the bacteria can cause severe infections, including bloodstream infections, pneumonia, skin irritation, and eye irritation, especially in newborns, infants, young children, and people with weakened immune systems.

The recall includes multiple counts of Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes sold nationwide in Target stores and online at Target.com.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled wipes and return them to any Target store for a full refund. The company says some customers reported product discoloration and health-related complaints tied to the wipes.

Target officials say the products were manufactured by supplier Sapro Temizlik Urunleri. The recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the FDA while the investigation continues.
