Jacksonville Police have identified the 6-year-old boy killed in a shooting Sunday evening as A’mir Houston.


According to Jacksonville Police, officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to reports of shots fired near South Highway 161. Investigators say the shooting happened in the 2000 block of Cloverdale Road.

Captain Ryan Wright with the Jacksonville Police Department said officers found Houston suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle occupied by 2 adults. Authorities reported neither adult was injured during the incident.

Houston was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators are now searching for Artavius Johnson, who was reportedly last seen driving a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Police say the vehicle was captured on a security camera near a pavilion in The Meadows neighborhood, located a short distance from the shooting scene.

The investigation remains open and ongoing.
