Sheriff Phillip Miller has announced the promotion of Captain Clayton Edwards to Chief Deputy for the White County Sheriff’s Office.

Edwards brings 35 years of law enforcement experience to the position, including 27 years serving with the White County Sheriff’s Office in White County Arkansas. Over the past 16 years, he has held several senior administrative roles, most recently serving as Detention Center Captain.

In that role, Edwards supervised the 24-hour operations of approximately 40 employees, oversaw a population of about 350 inmates, and managed an annual budget of nearly $6.4 million.

“Clayton is deserving and capable of the position,” Sheriff Miller said. “This new role will allow him to bring his administrative talents to the entirety of the Sheriff’s Office. I have full confidence that he will excel.”

Edwards will serve as Chief Deputy, acting as chief of staff for all agency operations across White County Arkansas. He replaces Ray Coffman, who retired at the end of February.

Officials say the promotion reflects Edwards’ long-standing leadership and commitment to public safety in White County Arkansas.
