Authorities have confirmed that the suspect in a deadly shooting earlier this week has now been located, and officials say the public is no longer at risk.

The incident happened around 3:20 a.m. on March 23, 2026, on Brown Lane in Independence County. Deputies responding to the scene found 1 person dead, while a second victim had already been transported to a local hospital by family members.

Investigators identified the suspect as Christopher L. Johnston, born 1978, who had been the subject of an active manhunt after being last seen in the 1600 block of Bethesda Road.

In an update from the Independence County Sheriff’s Office, authorities confirmed Johnston has been located, and the situation is now contained.
