As Arkansans gear up for holiday travel, drivers are getting welcome news at the pump. According to the latest report from AAA, both the national and Arkansas statewide fuel price averages have dropped to their lowest levels in four years.

Central Arkansas drivers are seeing some of the lowest prices in the state, with reported fuel costs dipping as low as $2.17 per gallon. AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria says Arkansans haven’t seen statewide averages this low since March 2021.

“That will be welcome news as 89% of all holiday travelers are expected to drive to their year-end destinations,” Chabarria said.

Nationally, the average sits at $2.94 per gallon. Hawaii tops the highest-price list at nearly $4.45, just above California’s $4.41. Meanwhile, Oklahoma claims the lowest average in the country at $2.36 per gallon.

AAA officials say the combination of lower crude oil prices and steady refinery output is contributing to the seasonal price drop—just in time for millions of Americans hitting the road.
