What Should You Do When The Power Goes Out?

When power goes out, always make sure to do the following:

  • Check for Safety: Ensure that there are no immediate dangers like fallen power lines, or gas leaks. Turn off appliances and electronics to prevent potential damage from a power surge when electricity is restored.
  • Inform the Utility Company: Report the outage to your electricity provider. Most utility companies have an automated system for reporting outages, either via a phone call or through their website/mobile app.
  • Prepare for Darkness and Cold: Find sources of light like flashlights, lanterns, or battery-powered LED lights. If it’s cold, conserve body heat by staying in one room, using blankets, and wearing warm clothes.
