New Surveillance Project Involving Cameras Set Up To Watch Arkansas Drivers

, , Comments Off on New Surveillance Project Involving Cameras Set Up To Watch Arkansas Drivers

They’re being placed along the roads you drive.

According to 5NewsOnline, if you see a sign near the road saying “speed photo enforced” near the highway, it means you’re on camera and being recorded. A new project has been launched to set these cameras up on Arkansas roads.

Cameras To Watch Arkansas Drivers

There’s an Arkansas law that allows speed cameras to be placed along the road to make sure drivers don’t speed through work zones.

These cameras have been out since last fall. That’s when the initiative began.

But rest assured,  the cameras are not speed enforcement cameras. At least not yet. No police officer will be called if you are caught speeding. It’s just there for accountability. At least, that’s the way it is for now.

According  to Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) Spokesperson Dave Parker:

“The intent of this was never to write a bunch of citations, that doesn’t get us anywhere. We get that we’ve got to get awareness out there. The speed enforcement cameras are just another way of doing that, and driving home that message: To slow down when you get into those construction zones and be more aware.”
