Arkansas State University-Beebe Dean Dr. Joseph Scott has been elected to the Executive Committee of the Arkansas Deans Association, taking on a statewide leadership role focused on strengthening higher education across Arkansas.
Scott serves as dean of the Math and Science Division and assistant professor of biology at ASU-Beebe.
He was nominated and elected by members of the Arkansas Deans Association to replace Dr. Blake Perkins, ASU-Beebe’s vice chancellor for academics, who has served on the association’s executive committee since 2023.
Scott Looks Forward to Statewide Collaboration
“I am honored to serve on this committee,” Scott said. “I hope to gain a better understanding of the challenges facing Arkansas colleges and universities and collaborate with other deans to develop strategies to address these issues.”
The Arkansas Deans Association is a professional network of academic deans and higher education leaders from colleges and universities across Arkansas. Its Executive Committee is the organization’s governing body and steering group, overseeing business operations, setting strategic priorities and supporting the association’s mission throughout the year.
National Higher Education Review Role
Scott is also serving on the Higher Learning Commission’s Peer Review Corps. The group includes about 1,450 faculty members, administrators and staff trained to evaluate colleges and universities across the United States.
Peer reviewers take part in evaluations designed to promote continuous institutional improvement and support accreditation standards.
ASU-Beebe Leadership Praises Appointments
“In addition to serving on the deans committee, Dr. Scott’s selection to join HLC as a peer reviewer is outstanding news, and I am very proud of his accomplishments,” Perkins said. “This opportunity will provide valuable professional experience as an academic leader and will also strengthen our own institutional accreditation efforts.”
