Batesville has once again been recognized as one of the Best Small Towns in the South by USA Today, marking the 3rd consecutive year the community has received the honor.
The national recognition places Batesville among 11 Southern communities competing for the No. 1 ranking, with public voting open now through 11:00 a.m. on 3-30-2026. Supporters can cast 1 vote per day to help the city claim the top spot.

The recognition continues a growing list of accolades for the Independence County community. Batesville has previously been named a Top 25 City by USA Today, earned Best Small Town in the South honors in 2024 and 2025, and was recognized as a Trendsetter City by Arkansas Business. The city was also named one of the Best Places to Raise a Family in Arkansas by HomeSnacks and was selected as a Community of the Year finalist by Community Playmaker in 2025.
Community Growth and Investment
City leaders say the recognition reflects the momentum happening across Batesville.
The community is home to award-winning schools, locally owned businesses, and an expanding system of parks, trails, and public recreation spaces.

Downtown Batesville continues to thrive under the leadership of Main Street Batesville, earning statewide recognition for historic preservation, economic vitality, and community placemaking.
Batesville has also gained statewide attention as the Christmas Capital of Arkansas®, an event that was named the Ozark Gateway Region’s Festival of the Year and a finalist for Attraction of the Year by the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism.
Recent investments also highlight the city’s forward momentum, including $25 million in recreation improvements and $110 million in water infrastructure upgrades designed to support long-term growth without increasing taxes.
Tourism Driving Economic Impact
Tourism continues to play a major role in Batesville’s economy.
In 2025, more than 850,000 visitors traveled to Batesville, with 39 percent coming from outside Arkansas and representing all 50 states.
Those visitors generated more than $450 million in economic impact for the local economy.
“I am thrilled to see Batesville recognized again as one of the best small towns in the South by USA Today,” said Crystal Johnson, CEO of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce. “This honor underscores what we’ve known all along — Batesville is a gem of a community with endless possibilities.”
Batesville Mayor Rick Elumbaugh also praised the community’s continued recognition.
“Being named one of the best small towns in the South is a testament to our residents’ hard work and dedication,” Elumbaugh said. “Let’s rally together and showcase the warmth, vibrancy, and hospitality that make Batesville exceptional.”
Residents and supporters are encouraged to vote daily through 3-30-2026.
