, , Leave a comment

The Batesville Police Department is investigating allegations of abuse involving the Batesville School District Preschool program.

According to a February 25, 2026 press release, police received three separate reports from the Child Abuse Hotline in early February alleging abuse at the preschool. Investigators initiated a formal inquiry, executing multiple search warrants and conducting interviews to collect and review evidence.

Authorities say a complete case file is now being prepared for submission to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for the 16th Judicial District, which will determine whether charges will be filed.

The investigation remains ongoing. Due to legal confidentiality requirements, police said no additional details will be released at this time.

In a separate statement, the Batesville School District said the Board of Education recently took action regarding a personnel matter but cannot provide specific details due to state and federal confidentiality laws.

The district has launched an independent external review to ensure a thorough and impartial process. Interim Superintendent David Campbell has been appointed to oversee daily operations during this time.

School officials emphasized that student safety remains the district’s top priority.
