Drew Ramey of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine has been named the recipient of the 2025 Excellence in Oral Health Promotion – Individual Award by the Arkansas Oral Health Coalition, recognizing his long-standing leadership and impact on oral health initiatives across Arkansas.

The award was announced during the 2025 Oral Health Summit in Little Rock following a competitive nomination and review process. The Excellence in Oral Health Promotion awards recognize individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to improving oral health across the state.

Coalition leaders say Ramey has been instrumental in advancing programs that expand access to care, strengthen oral health policy, and build collaborative partnerships among healthcare providers, educators, and community organizations. He currently serves as a strategy adviser for the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine.

Among his major contributions, Ramey helped advance legislation that paved the way for establishing Arkansas’ first dental school, a milestone expected to improve workforce development and access to dental care statewide. He also championed legislation aimed at expanding dental services for individuals with special needs.

Colleagues describe Ramey as a behind-the-scenes leader who brings people together and encourages collaboration while keeping the focus on improving patient outcomes.

Leaders at Lyon College say his commitment to public service and oral health education reflects the mission of the School of Dental Medicine and supports long-term improvements in community health.

Ramey said he is grateful for the recognition and emphasized that improving oral health in Arkansas is the result of many people working together toward a shared goal.
