ccording to an announcement shared on Facebook, the Markowski Family has officially finalized the donation of the historic Gray’s Hospital building to the City of Batesville, marking a major step forward for downtown redevelopment. The family said they explored numerous options to rehabilitate the aging property, but ultimately determined that the City held the best opportunity for restoration and future success.

“We tried multiple avenues to rehabilitate the property, but once we realized it wouldn’t be possible, we determined that the City had the best opportunity for success,” the post explained, noting that progress sometimes requires stepping aside to allow new possibilities to take shape.

The family recognized Mayor Rick Elumbaugh, the Batesville City Council, and White River Planning & Development for their role in advancing the project. Excitement now turns to what the revitalized structure could become as leaders work toward a new vision for the gateway into Downtown Main Street.
