The Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a hit-and-run incident that ended with a vehicle overturning and crashing into a vacant brick commercial building in Damascus.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were notified at about 2 PM on October 1 of a crash in Greenbrier.
Authorities said deputies then spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the reported hit-and-run. The vehicle was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed and being driven recklessly away from the scene.
Deputies activated their emergency lights and attempted to catch up with the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office said the driver continued passing other vehicles using the center and oncoming lane of traffic.
The vehicle then reportedly struck a curb on the opposite side of the roadway, overturned and rolled before crashing into a vacant brick commercial building in Damascus.
Authorities said nobody was inside the building at the time of the crash.
The driver was injured and taken by medical helicopter to a hospital for treatment.
The driver’s name and age have not been released.
According to the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office, the driver is expected to face charges including felony fleeing, reckless driving, speeding, improper passing and criminal mischief.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
