A significant wildfire event unfolded yesterday, drawing community attention across Sebastian County.
Severe weather sparked a wind‑driven wildfire that scorched several acres on the hills and valleys near Mt. Harmony and Burnsville Road, prompting a multi‑agency response that ultimately contained the blaze, though smoke will linger throughout the day.
Wild fire contained on hillsides
The Sebastian County Emergency Management & EMS-Rescue reported that a storm brought some rain, but it was insufficient to dampen conditions. Strong winds and lightning created a fire hazard. The resulting blaze caught responders’ attention.
The Milltown‑Washburn Fire District responded to the wild fire that burned a few acres across hills and valleys. The terrain made access difficult. Firefighters worked to protect the surrounding area.
Arkansas Forestry and volunteer firefighters assisted in keeping the fire contained. Their efforts helped keep the blaze in the black and prevented further spread. Coordination among agencies was key.
