Batesville firefighters responded to 2 structure fires, including a residential fire on Broadwater Lane and a large 2-story structure fire in the Ruddell Hill area.

According to the Batesville Fire Department, crews were called to Broadwater Lane after receiving a report of a structure fire.

The call came while department personnel were gathered for a meeting, allowing the department to respond with a high number of firefighters and a quick response time.

When crews arrived, all occupants had already made it safely out of the home.

Firefighters quickly began an interior search, knocked down the fire and moved into salvage and overhaul operations.

Batesville firefighters were later called to assist Ruddell Hill crews with a large 2-story structure fire.

When Batesville crews arrived, the fire had already burned through the roof and the second floor of the structure was heavily involved.

Batesville Fire Department Ladder 1 was brought to the scene and used as an elevated waterway as crews worked to control flames on the roof and second floor.

Firefighters also conducted a search of the home.

No occupants were found inside.

Multiple departments worked together during the Ruddell Hill response.

Bethesda, Northside, Batesville and Ruddell Hill firefighters all responded to the incident.

The responses highlighted the role mutual aid plays when departments face larger fires requiring additional personnel, equipment and water operations.

No additional information about the cause of either fire was provided.
