Arkansas Firefighter Team Saves “Rescue” Squirrel, Returns It Safely

A surprising rooftop rescue captured the attention of residents Saturday, highlighting the quick thinking of local firefighters.

North Little Rock Fire Department’s Rescue 1 team retrieved a squirrel that had become stranded on the roof of the city’s new Central Station during a routine cleanup, safely returning the animal to ground with no injuries reported.

On a typical Saturday cleanup, crews from the North Little Rock Fire Department were on the roof of the new Central Station clearing sticks and leaves. The routine work set the scene for the unexpected find.

While working, they spotted a small squirrel that had made its way onto the roof and appeared unable to descend. The animal’s precarious position prompted immediate attention.

Two members of the department’s Special Operations Team applied their rescue training to safely capture the squirrel. Their quick actions secured the creature without harm.

The squirrel was gently lowered to solid ground, no injuries were reported, and all is well. The North Little Rock Fire Department shared the successful rescue in a recent post.
