A Newport man is being held on a $1 million cash or surety bond after police said he arranged to meet a 13-year-old for sex.
Craighead County District Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Shelby Lee Thompson with internet stalking of a child, a Class Y felony.
According to information released in the case, Jonesboro police officers responded Tuesday, August 25, to the 3400 block of East Highland Drive in Jonesboro.
Police allege Thompson had arranged to meet someone he believed to be a 13-year-old for sexual activity.
Following the investigation, Thompson was taken into custody.
Judge Boling later found probable cause for the internet stalking of a child charge and set Thompson’s bond at $1 million cash or surety.
The charge is classified as a Class Y felony under Arkansas law.
Thompson is identified as being from Newport.
