The Cave City School District is celebrating a major milestone after holding a groundbreaking ceremony for its new elementary school, marking what district leaders called an exciting new chapter for students and the community.
Following the groundbreaking ceremony, the school district also dedicated its school pond, located across from the site of the new elementary school, in honor of longtime science teacher Ed Turnbough.
District officials thanked Turnbough for his many years of service and dedication to Cave City students.
The district also recognized the many people and organizations that helped move the elementary school project forward.
Those recognized included Larry Brown and former Cave City School Board members, current School Board members, Facilities Director Tim Cain, Tyrell Pace, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, members of the Arkansas Legislature, Representatives Bart Shultz, Shade Pierce and Steven Walker, and architect Andrew Hicks.
Cave City Mayor Jonas Anderson, local businesses, banks and the Cave City Chamber of Commerce were also recognized for their support.
The district additionally thanked FARCO representatives Taylor Maherg, James Blevins, Amy Finster, Jody Smotherman and Roger Rich.
School officials said the most important thanks goes to the patrons of the Cave City School District, whose continued support and investment helped make the new elementary school project possible.
The district said the groundbreaking represents an investment in the future of Cave City students and the surrounding community.
The dedication of the Ed Turnbough school pond also provided an opportunity to recognize the lasting impact of a longtime educator whose service helped shape generations of students in the Cave City School District.
