The Batesville School District is preparing for the upcoming school year with new leadership, a renewed focus on its strategic priorities and professional development designed to strengthen instruction across the district.
David Campbell has been named superintendent of the Batesville School District, while Rachel Horn has been selected to serve as assistant superintendent.
The leadership changes come as Batesville administrators, teachers and staff members prepare to welcome students back to classrooms for another school year.
Earlier this week, Batesville School District educators participated in districtwide professional development focused on strengthening the work taking place inside classrooms, according to an update posted on the district’s Facebook page.
The professional development program included a closer examination of the Batesville School District Strategic Plan. Educators reviewed the district’s shared vision, priorities and goals for the coming year.
Staff members also reviewed the district’s Career and Technical Education Plan, commonly known as CTE.
Career and technical education programs provide students with academic knowledge, practical experience and career-focused skills that can help prepare them for employment, technical training or continued education following graduation.
According to the district, reviewing both plans helped reinforce the priorities educators will share as the new school year begins.
Staff members also heard from Dr. Lupe Peña de Martínez with the Arkansas Department of Education.
Martínez delivered a keynote presentation titled “Building a Community of Belonging.” Her message focused on the importance of creating school environments where every student feels valued, connected and supported.
Creating a sense of belonging can play an important role in students’ classroom participation, academic achievement and overall well-being.
The professional development program provided educators from across the district with an opportunity to learn together, discuss instructional priorities and prepare for the students they will serve during the coming year.
The district said collaborative learning among educators ultimately benefits students and helps establish consistency across its schools and classrooms.
Campbell and Horn will help guide that work as the district moves forward under its updated administrative leadership.
Campbell succeeds Dr. Ginni McDonald as superintendent. The Batesville School Board selected Campbell and Horn for their respective leadership positions as the district prepared for the transition into the new academic year.
District officials said they are excited to continue building on the work already underway as they prepare for another successful school year.
