The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program will hold a training session on the National Register of Historic Places Saturday, September 12, in Little Rock.
The training will begin at 9 a.m. at the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism headquarters, located at 1100 North Street.
The session will provide information about the National Register of Historic Places and explain what being listed on the register means for a property.
Participants will also learn how to complete a National Register of Historic Places nomination form.
Ralph Wilcox, national register and survey coordinator and deputy state historic preservation officer, said the National Register is the country’s official list of historic resources considered worthy of preservation.
Wilcox said listing a property recognizes its architectural or historical significance.
A National Register listing can also make a property eligible for potential financial incentives, including certain grants and tax credits. Listing does not guarantee that funding or incentives will be awarded.
The National Register of Historic Places is a National Park Service program administered in Arkansas by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.
The training is limited to 20 participants, and advance registration is required.
