Construction is officially underway on a long-awaited traffic signal at the intersection of Janet Drive and East Beebe Capps Expressway (going into Riser-Harness Ford across from Casey’s Gas Station) in Searcy.

The project includes installing the new traffic signal and making improvements to the busy intersection, which serves several businesses and shopping destinations along the Beebe Capps Expressway corridor.

As part of the construction, the Janet Drive entrance into the nearby shopping center has been temporarily closed. Crews are removing and rebuilding the traffic islands surrounding the entrance.

The contractor expects to pour new concrete next week. However, the Janet Drive entrance will remain closed throughout the weekend while the initial construction work continues.

Businesses inside the shopping center remain accessible through other entrances. Drivers should watch for construction signs, equipment, workers and changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down, allow additional travel time and use caution near the intersection. Drivers attempting to reach businesses in the shopping center should use an alternate entrance until the Janet Drive access point reopens.

City officials said the new signal is intended to improve traffic flow and safety at the busy intersection. Residents have been asked to remain patient while construction progresses.

The project consists of installing a traffic signal and completing additional intersection improvements at Janet Drive and East Beebe Capps Expressway, according to project information published by Pickering Firm.

A final completion date for the traffic signal project was not included in the latest construction update.
