Individuals with eligible criminal records who are seeking a fresh start are invited to attend a free Expungement Clinic on Thursday, July 23, in Searcy.
The event is being hosted by the Literacy Council of White County, The Dismas Project, and Arkansas Legal Aid and will take place from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Literacy Council of White County, located at 1310 Race Avenue in Searcy, next to Escape Room and Knight Fire Barbeque.
The clinic is designed to assist eligible individuals with the process of record sealing, commonly known as expungement, for qualifying misdemeanor and felony convictions.
Organizers emphasize that cases must be closed before they can be considered for expungement.
Volunteer legal professionals will be available to answer questions and help participants determine whether they qualify under Arkansas law.
Expungement can help remove barriers to employment, housing, education, and other opportunities by allowing eligible individuals to legally state in many circumstances that they have not been convicted of certain offenses.
The clinic is free to attend, but organizers encourage participants to pre-register through the Arkansas Legal Aid website or on the Literacy Council of White County’s Facebook page.
