President Donald J. Trump has ordered all United States flags to be flown at half-staff effective immediately in honor of the late United States Senator Lindsey Graham.
According to the presidential proclamation, flags will remain at half-staff until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, when they should be returned to full-staff.
The order follows the passing of Senator Graham on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The half-staff directive applies to all United States flags displayed at federal buildings, military installations, embassies, and other government facilities across the nation. State and local governments, businesses, schools, and private citizens often follow presidential proclamations by lowering their flags during periods of national mourning.
Senator Graham served the people of South Carolina in the United States Senate for many years and was one of the nation’s most recognizable lawmakers. His death prompted tributes from leaders across the country recognizing his decades of public service.
Government offices and agencies are expected to observe the presidential order immediately. Flags should be raised back to full-staff at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18.
