White River Health has reached a major milestone in cardiovascular care after becoming the first healthcare system in Arkansas to perform reconstruction of a heavily calcified and completely blocked abdominal vein using the FDA-approved GORE® VIABAHN® FORTEGRA® Venous Stent platform.

The groundbreaking procedures were recently completed at White River Medical Center in Batesville by Dr. Mahesh Anantha and the Cardiac Cath Lab team. The medical center is also the first in North Arkansas to utilize the advanced venous stent technology.
The innovative minimally invasive treatment is designed to help patients suffering from severe vein disease and long-term vein blockages in the abdomen and legs. The advanced stent platform expands specialized vein care options for patients across North Arkansas while allowing many to receive highly advanced cardiovascular treatment closer to home.
Officials with White River Health said the achievement reflects the organization’s continued commitment to bringing cutting-edge cardiovascular and endovascular therapies to the region.
Team members involved in the historic procedures included Justin Blankenship, RTR, Cath Lab Clinical Lead; John Clegg, RCIS, Scrub Tech; Michael Bell, RN, Cath Lab; and Braiden Wright, RN, Cath Lab.
