The Old Independence Regional Museum will host a special Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the observance honoring law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty from the 12 counties that once made up historic Old Independence County.

The ceremony will take place at the museum located at 380 South 9th Street in Batesville.

Special guest speakers include Leslie Rutledge,

OIRM Board President James Sturch, and retired law enforcement training instructor Darren Plaster.

Representatives from each county will read the names of fallen officers, while Elliott Andrews will offer a prayer in their memory. Organizers say the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Honor Guard will also conduct a flag demonstration during a bagpipe ceremony.

Peace Officers Memorial Day was first established in 1962 to honor officers who died in the line of duty and recognize those continuing to serve communities across the nation.

Museum officials say the event offers an opportunity for the community to reflect, remember, and show gratitude for law enforcement service and sacrifice.
