The Ozark Gateway Region celebrated tourism and regional growth during its 2026 Annual Banquet held March 19 at the Ozark Folk Center’s Skillet Restaurant in Mountain View Arkansas.

Secretary Shea Lewis shares plans for Blanchard Springs as a State Park

The event brought together community leaders, tourism partners, and stakeholders from across North Arkansas to recognize the people, places, and events that continue to drive visitation and economic impact throughout the region.

A highlight of the evening was a presentation from Shea Lewis, Secretary of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, who shared updates on statewide tourism initiatives and future development.

During his remarks, Lewis announced that Blanchard Springs Caverns will reopen May 1 under the management of the U.S. Forest Service, with continued support from Arkansas State Parks. The caverns are expected to close again in November 2026 for renovations lasting approximately 18 months.

Those improvements are part of a long-term vision that will lead to the creation of the new Blanchard Springs State Park, expected to open in 2028, further enhancing one of Arkansas’ most visited natural attractions.
