Amid concerns about electric rates, new changes in pricing have been announced.
Petit Jean Electric Cooperative has updated its electric rates, effective for bills mailed on or after April 29, 2025. The changes, approved by the Arkansas Public Service Commission, aim to reflect the true cost of service.
The monthly service charge will decrease from $35 to $31, easing the flat fee for members. However, the per-kilowatt-hour energy charge will slightly increase to offset rising power supply costs.
Summer rates will rise from 10.329 cents to 10.967 cents per kWh, while winter rates will adjust for the first 500 kWh from 9.306 cents to 9.894 cents, and over 500 kWh from 8.028 cents to 8.608 cents. These adjustments also apply to three-phase service, large power users, and outdoor lighting rates.
The cooperative conducted a detailed cost-of-service study with Toth and Associates to ensure fair rates. The goal is to maintain reliable service while covering higher costs from their supplier, Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation.
