Railroad Crossing Rule Change Coming To Arkansas After All These Years

No more stop signs at railroad crossings without cross arms?

That’s the new rule.

According to Lowell, Arkansas’ Public Works, railroad companies have decided that railroad crossings without cross arms will not have stop signs anymore. Instead, stop signs at these locations will be replaced by yield signs.

Changes Coming To Railroad Crossings In Arkansas

For many years, stop signs have been placed at railroad crossings without cross arms. Now they’re being replaced with yield signs. Likely due to the fact that you must yield to oncoming trains (at least, you probably should).

This initiative comes directly from railroad companies, not city departments. It’s reportedly a new standard they’ve adopted.

The changes will affect several crossings in Lowell, including Jackson St. & E. Monroe. Another location is E. Appleblossom crossing.

Stay aware of these modifications to ensure safety. These updates aim to standardize procedures across the area.
