Mystik Dan, an 18-1 shot, won the 150th Kentucky Derby on Saturday. The jockey was Brian Hernandez Jr., and the owners are Lance Gasaway, 4 G Racing LLC, and Daniel Hamby III.
There’s a great Arkansas connection here! Gasaway, a former wide receiver at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, leads the ownership team, which includes his cousin Brent Gasaway, his wife Sharilyn, and Daniel Hamby III.
The photo finish showed that Mystik Dan’s nose reached the wire first. Saturday also marked the first anniversary of Gasaway’s father, Clint’s, passing at 85. The next big race is the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore.
