Text Messages Received About Fake Toll Bills In Mountain View
In the text messages residents are receiving, a fake claim about an unpaid “toll bill” is mentioned:
“The Toll Roads Notice of Toll Evasion: You have an unpaid toll bill on your account. To avoid late fees, pay within 12 hours or the late fees will be increased and reported to the DMV.”
The scam text advises recipients to pay within 12 hours and includes a suspicious link.
Police emphasize not to reply, click the link, or interact with the message in any way.
Authorities advise marking the message as junk and deleting it immediately. The scam might originate from various email addresses or phone numbers.
The department reminds the public that official toll notices are not sent via text. Always verify through official channels before taking any action on such notifications.
