It happened in Cave City, Arkansas. It’s only 17 minutes drive outside of Batesville.

A small earthquake of magnitude 1.8 struck 24 km from Cave City, Arkansas, on January 19, 2025, at 12:32 PM CST. The small earthquake was small enough to register, but not big enough to cause any damage.

The incident reportedly happened on Sunday.

This comes after a previous earthquake was reported near Searcy, Arkansas earlier this month.

Small Earthquake Reported Near Batesville, Arkansas

No damage is expected from this minor tremor, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The USGS lists this event with a magnitude type ‘md’ and confirms it has been reviewed by a seismologist.

Typically, earthquakes below magnitude 3.0 are not known to cause damage, as explained by the USGS.

For reference, damaging earthquakes usually start at magnitudes of 4.0 or higher.
