Camden’s residents are celebrating a historic shift in their police department’s leadership.
Cortney Parker has been appointed interim chief of the Camden Police Department, becoming the first female chief in Arkansas, as announced by the department and supported by city officials.
Cortney Parker Appointed Interim Chief
Cortney Parker began her service with the Camden Police Department in 2011. Over 15 years she has served as a patrol officer, K‑9 officer, detective in the Criminal Investigation Division, patrol commander, and assistant chief. Her rise through the ranks underscores her dedication to public safety.
In 2023, Parker’s impact was recognized statewide when she was honored as Ouachita County Officer of the Year. This award highlighted her leadership and community‑focused policing. It set the stage for her historic promotion.
The transition follows the departure of Chief TJ Robertson, who led the department for the past 18 months. Mayor Charlotte Young publicly supported the appointment, emphasizing continuity in leadership. Both individuals were thanked for their service.
Parker will now guide patrol operations, support staff, and community initiatives as interim chief. Details about her specific plans for the department have not yet been disclosed. The community has expressed enthusiasm for this historic milestone.
