, , Leave a comment

The Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission is encouraging Arkansans to celebrate National Prairie Day and World Trails Day by exploring some of the state’s most unique natural habitats this weekend.

Officials say Arkansas prairies preserve a vital piece of the state’s ecological history while continuing to support native plants, pollinators, grassland birds, and wildlife across the Natural State.

One featured destination is Cherokee Prairie Natural Area in Charleston Arkansas, where visitors can experience sweeping grasslands, native wildflowers, and scenic trails that showcase one of Arkansas’ remaining prairie ecosystems.

Conservation leaders say prairie remnants provide rare habitats maintained through periodic fire and careful stewardship. Visitors are encouraged to stay on marked trails to help protect sensitive native landscapes for future generations.

The Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission says National Prairie Day and World Trails Day offer an opportunity to connect with Arkansas’ outdoor heritage while promoting conservation and responsible recreation.
