Lyon College will host a public convocation lecture examining Arkansas’s dramatic political shift over the past decade.
Dr. John C. Davis will present “From Blue to Red: The Rise of the GOP in Arkansas” on Thursday, March 5, at 4 p.m. in Nucor Auditorium inside the Lyon College Business and Economics Building at 2300 Highland Road in Batesville. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Davis serves as executive director of the David and Barbara Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History at the University of Arkansas. His lecture will explore how Arkansas transitioned from Democratic dominance to Republican control in a relatively short period of time.
On Election Day 2010, Democrats held most of the state’s congressional seats, constitutional offices, and legislative majorities. Within five years, Republicans gained control of all six U.S. congressional seats, every statewide constitutional office, and supermajorities in the Arkansas General Assembly.
The lecture is presented by the Lyon College Convocation Committee as part of the college’s ongoing public lecture series.
