Arkansas State University-Beebe and its Office of Workforce and Community Development are offering free precision agriculture courses through the ASU-Beebe Center for Precision Agriculture, with upcoming classes focused on geographic information systems and drone technology.

Officials say the courses are open to the public and designed for average users, with special value for agriculture producers, outdoor enthusiasts, urban planners, and elected officials.

A Geographic Information Systems (GIS) course will be held from 6–9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, at the ASU-Beebe Farm, 1405 West Center Street in Beebe. The introductory class will show participants how to use free GIS data to enhance everyday decision-making and planning. Registration is available through the ASU-Beebe community events page.

An Introduction to Drones course is scheduled for 6–9 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, at the same location. Topics include drone benefits, types of drones, interpreting aerial data, and current legal and licensing requirements for drone flight.

Courses will be taught by Kendall Casey, master instructor of computer-aided drafting and design, and Keith Perkins, instructor of precision agriculture.
