The U.S. Army has awarded an enhanced use lease to Hanwha Defense USA to build a $1.3 billion munitions production facility at Pine Bluff Arsenal in Arkansas.

This partnership aims to modernize the nation’s munitions supply chain by producing critical energetic materials for explosives and propellants, enhancing 155mm artillery shells’ performance, safety, and lifespan.

The project is expected to create about 200 skilled jobs, boost the local economy, and strengthen national defense readiness. Arkansas leaders, including Senators Tom Cotton and John Boozman, praised it as a win for jobs and security. The agreement is pending final negotiations.
