Owners of historic properties in Independence County now have a chance to secure financial support for restoration as the Batesville Preservation Association opens applications for its Historic Preservation Grant Program. The program awards up to $5,000 in matching funds to help stabilize, renovate, and preserve structures 50 years or older.

The initiative focuses on protecting the county’s rich architectural legacy, with priority given to properties located within Batesville city limits, especially those in the historic downtown area.
Who Is Eligible to Apply?
The grant program is open to a wide range of property owners, including:
Schools
Churches
Nonprofits
Government buildings
Commercial buildings in historic districts
Any building with meaningful local history is encouraged to apply.
Key Grant Details
Matching funds: For every $1 invested by the property owner, the grant matches it.
Reimbursement program: Funds are awarded after project completion.
Multi-year awards: Applicants may receive grants for up to three consecutive years.
Cooling-off period: After three years of awards, applicants must wait two years to reapply.
Lifetime cap: No organization may receive more than $5,000 total in a 10-year period.
Association leaders say the program is designed to help preserve historically significant structures while encouraging long-term investment in the community’s architectural heritage.
