A surprising incident has captured the attention of Heber Springs residents and officials alike.
This morning the Heber Springs Sewer Crew discovered an open manhole lid in a newly paved gravel driveway, with gravel spilling into the system, prompting immediate clean‑up plans and highlighting the value of regular inspections.
Manhole Lid Found Open with Gravel
The Sewer Crew reported finding the manhole lid ajar during a routine check of the new gravel driveway.
Inside the manhole, workers observed gravel that had apparently entered during the driveway’s gravel installation.
The utility plans to clean out the gravel, noting that it is harder to treat than typical waste.
Officials said the debris could clog sewer mains, reinforcing why periodic manhole inspections are essential, according to the Heber Springs Water & Wastewater Utility.
