44th Annual BeanFest and Championship Outhouse Races Return October 23–24
The Foster Heating & Air celebration leads directly into one of Mountain View’s most anticipated annual traditions.
The 44th Annual Bean Fest and Championship Outhouse Races will take place Friday and Saturday, October 23–24, in downtown Mountain View.
The annual celebration attracts visitors from throughout Arkansas and beyond for live music, arts and crafts, food vendors, family activities, and the famous Championship Outhouse Races.
Visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of Mountain View’s historic courthouse square while experiencing the town’s rich Ozark music traditions.
The festival is known for its combination of old-fashioned cooking, live entertainment, local hospitality, and unusual racing competition.
FREE Beans and Cornbread Served Saturday at Noon
One of the most popular traditions of BeanFest is the annual bean cooking competition.
Cooking teams prepare approximately 1,000 pounds of pinto beans in large antique cast-iron pots around the Stone County Courthouse Square.
The teams compete for recognition while visitors enjoy the sights, smells, and excitement of the cooking competition.
At 12 Noon Saturday, October 24, the traditional dinner bell signals the serving of FREE beans and cornbread to festival visitors.
The free meal is one of the most recognizable traditions associated with the annual Mountain View celebration.
Championship Outhouse Races Bring Unique Competition to Mountain View
Another highlight of BeanFest is the Championship Outhouse Races, scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
Teams compete using creatively decorated, wheeled outhouses powered by people rather than engines.
Each racing outhouse features a driver seated inside while teammates push the unusual vehicle down the racecourse.
The competition includes costumes, creative designs, cheering spectators, and teams competing for recognition and prizes.
The Parade of Outhouses is scheduled for approximately 1 PM Saturday, followed by the racing competition.
The Championship Outhouse Races have become one of the most unusual and entertaining traditions in Arkansas.
