Arkansas State University-Beebe is celebrating national recognition after its Pharmacy Technician Science Program and longtime instructor Janet McGregor Liles received prestigious awards from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Foundation.

The honors recognize excellence in pharmacy technician education, workforce development and leadership within the healthcare industry.
ASU-BEEBE PHARMACY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM EARNS NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The ASU-Beebe Pharmacy Technician Science Program received the Pharmacy Technician Education and Training Program Achievement Award.
The national recognition honors 1 ASHP/ACPE-accredited pharmacy technician education and training program demonstrating innovative approaches to educating future pharmacy technicians.
The award recognizes programs that provide outstanding training opportunities, develop professional skills and prepare students for successful careers in pharmacy.
The recognition is supported through contributions to the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Technician Fund.
ASU-Beebe’s program is the only college-based ASHP-accredited pharmacy technician training program in Arkansas, making the national honor particularly significant for the institution.
JANET MCGREGOR LILES RECEIVES PHARMACY TECHNICIAN EXCELLENCE AWARD
Janet McGregor Liles, director and advanced instructor of the Pharmacy Technician Science Program and director of allied health at ASU-Beebe, received the ASHP Pharmacy Technician Excellence Award.
The award honors pharmacy technicians who have made significant contributions to advancing the profession, strengthening the pharmacy workforce and improving pharmacy practice.
Liles has been a registered pharmacy technician since 1994 and has held leadership positions in academic, clinical and industry settings.
Her career spans more than 3 decades of pharmacy experience, education, workforce development and professional leadership.
“Congratulations to our pharmacy technician program and Janet on receiving these awards,” said Dr. Joseph Scott, dean of the Division of Math and Science.
“Janet is a multi-talented leader, not only in pharmacy technician science but across all areas of healthcare education.”
LEADERSHIP EXTENDS ACROSS MULTIPLE HEALTHCARE PROGRAMS
In addition to directing the Pharmacy Technician Science Program, Liles oversees allied health education at ASU-Beebe.
Her responsibilities include supporting educational programs in emergency medicine, health information technology, veterinary technology and medical laboratory technician training.
Through these responsibilities, Liles helps prepare students for careers across a variety of healthcare professions.
She has also been actively involved in developing standards, improving educational opportunities and strengthening the professional pharmacy technician workforce.
A CAREER DEDICATED TO PHARMACY EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP
Liles has served as executive director, president and vice president of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council.
She has also held advisory positions with ASU-Beebe and the Arkansas Association of Health-System Pharmacists.
Liles serves on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certification Council and represents pharmacy technicians on the Arkansas Association of Health-System Pharmacists Board of Directors.
Her professional experience includes serving as operations manager for Dial Management Inc. in Jacksonville, lead pharmacy technician at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System, director of assessment for ASU-Beebe’s information technology client services program and director of operations for Stanley and Turner Drug Company in Searcy.
EDUCATION AND CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Liles earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Central Arkansas and a master’s degree in health sciences from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
She is also pursuing a doctorate in health sciences through Old Dominion University and Eastern Virginia Medical School.
Her commitment to education extends beyond the classroom through mentoring students pursuing careers in pharmacy.
“Janet has mentored numerous pre-pharmacy students, guiding them through the challenges and coursework required to become successful pharmacy students and, ultimately, pharmacists,” Scott said.
“Janet is truly a cornerstone of healthcare education at our institution.”
ASU-BEEBE PROGRAM PREPARES STUDENTS FOR PHARMACY CAREERS
The ASU-Beebe Pharmacy Technician Science Program provides students with hands-on instruction, comprehensive coursework and access to modern simulation facilities.
Students receive training designed to prepare them for employment in a variety of pharmacy environments, including:
– Hospitals and healthcare systems
– Retail pharmacies
– Long-term care facilities
– Nuclear pharmacies
– Mail-order pharmacies
– Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
The program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
Its curriculum prepares graduates to pursue national pharmacy technician certification and compete for positions in the healthcare workforce.
