The tent was full as seniors gathered for entertainment, fellowship and special recognition during Senior Day at the White County Fair on September 17.
Rockabilly Hall of Famer Beau Renfro provided the entertainment, adding a musical highlight to the celebration.
Unity Health CEO LaDonna Johnston and ArkansasRadio.com radio stations owner Bob Connell recognized the day’s special honorees.
Dottie Wells, 89, was honored as the oldest woman attending.James and Dottie Wells were recognized as the longest-married couple, celebrating 72 years of marriage. Dottie earned 2 honors during the gathering, adding another highlight to the couple’s special day.
Durwood Pickle, 95, received recognition as the oldest man and Veteran.
The morning included opportunities to visit the fair’s exhibit halls. Volunteers helped direct arriving guests to the tent area and distributed bags at the tent and exhibit halls.
The program featured a welcome from the White County Fair Board president, presentation of the colors by ASU ROTC and the national anthem.
Johnston welcomed attendees, and veterans were also recognized during the celebration. The program listed prayer by Chaplain Greg Gaddis before an 11 a.m. lunch.
A special thank-you goes to Unity Health for helping make the day possible and Arkansas SHIIP for supporting seniors, along with Beau Renfro, the volunteers and fair representatives who helped make the gathering special.
FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY FAIR FUN
The White County Fair continues Friday night, September 18, with the MWFA Demolition Derby and Round Track at 6:30 p.m. Midnight South Band and the PRCA Rodeo are scheduled for 7 p.m.
Friday’s late-night 5th Quarter runs from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., with no gate admission during those hours and $30 ride armbands.
On Saturday, September 19, admission gates and the midway open at noon. Ride armbands are $30 for the 1 to 5 p.m. session.
Saturday evening features Power Wheels at 6 p.m., the Demolition Derby at 6:30 p.m. and the PRCA Rodeo at 7 p.m.
Regular gate admission is $6 for children and $8 for adults.
