Collins was arrested July 8 and remained in the White County Detention Center on a $350,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in White County Circuit Court on August 11 for plea and arraignment.
INVESTIGATION BEGAN IN APRIL
The investigation began after an alleged sexual assault was reported to the White County Sheriff’s Office on April 30.
According to the probable-cause affidavit, the juvenile reported meeting an adult who used the name “Kade” through an online social-media platform called Monkey.
Investigators allege the adult later met the juvenile at an abandoned residence near the juvenile’s home. Court records allege marijuana was used and sexual activity occurred during multiple meetings.
Messages allegedly sent by the suspect were also recovered from the juvenile’s telephone. One message cited in the affidavit reportedly stated, “We’re not going to get caught, I promise.”
Investigators traced the telephone number associated with the messages to Collins, according to the affidavit.
The juvenile subsequently identified Collins as the person who used the name “Kade” during a photographic lineup, Marini wrote.
COLLINS INTERVIEWED BY INVESTIGATORS
During an interview, Collins was reportedly asked whether he had used the Monkey application.
According to the affidavit, Collins acknowledged using the platform because he was lonely and said he had met 1 person through it.
Marini wrote that Collins also discussed extensive drug use during the period covered by the investigation and reportedly said his memory of that time was unclear.
The case remains pending in White County Circuit Court.
The charges are allegations. Collins is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
