Text-to-911 is now available throughout Lonoke County, giving residents another way to reach emergency services when speaking on the phone is not possible or could put someone in danger.
Officials stress that calling 911 remains the best and fastest way to reach emergency services whenever possible. However, Text-to-911 can now be used in Cabot and communities throughout Lonoke County when a caller cannot safely speak.
The announcement thanked the Arkansas 911 Board, Director Beth Johnson and her team, along with everyone involved in bringing the service to the county.

Officials are reminding residents of the simple message: Call if you can. Text if you can’t.
Anyone who needs to text 911 should enter 911 as the recipient and send their exact location first.
They should then briefly describe the emergency and answer questions from the dispatcher.
Officials also advise people not to use abbreviations or emojis when communicating with a 911 dispatcher.
The service is intended to provide another emergency option for situations where speaking is impossible, unsafe or could place someone in additional danger.
