An Arkansas State University-Beebe automotive technology student is being recognized for her achievement, determination and career goals through the Metallica Scholars Initiative.
Constance Boyd was recently presented with a Wolverine x Metallica Scholars gear pack, which included Wolverine work boots and career-related gear through the Metallica Scholars Initiative.
Aaron Hicks, an automotive technology instructor at ASU-Beebe, described Boyd as an extremely talented and outstanding student who has worked hard to build a stable future.
Hicks said Boyd grew up in what she described as an unstable environment but has continued working toward her goals. Her dedication helped her earn the top 1st-year student position in the automotive technology program, making her an ideal candidate for the gear pack.
Boyd initially began classes at ASU-Beebe in another area of study but soon changed her major to automotive technology.
Her interest includes developing skills involving electric and hybrid vehicle technology, an increasingly important part of the automotive industry.
Boyd has already received statewide recognition for her talent. She won the state gold medal for pin design during the Arkansas SkillsUSA spring competition in Hot Springs.
After completing her 2nd year at ASU-Beebe and earning an Associate of Applied Science degree, Boyd plans to begin a career as an automotive technician at a dealership.
“This program has given me so much hope for the stable future I’ve always wanted,” Boyd said.
ASU-Beebe has received $125,000 to date through the Metallica Scholars Initiative. The funding is designed to improve student experiences and career readiness while supporting career and technical education programs.
The Metallica Scholars Initiative is connected with All Within My Hands, the nonprofit philanthropic organization founded by the members and management of Metallica.
The organization supports workforce education, hunger relief and other community services.
According to All Within My Hands, 100% of donations go directly to organizations supported by the foundation.
The organization reports that its collective efforts have provided more than $25 million, including $13.5 million for career and technical education programs, more than $7.5 million to fight food insecurity and more than $5 million for disaster relief.
Arkansas State University-Beebe was founded in 1927 and is a 2-year institution within the Arkansas State University System.
ASU-Beebe operates campuses in Beebe, Heber Springs, Searcy and at Little Rock Air Force Base, along with online programs. The college offers associate degrees, certificates and noncredit workforce training.
