Arkansas State Police are assisting the Hoxie Police Department with an investigation after the body of a Salem man was discovered Tuesday afternoon near a church in Lawrence County.
According to Arkansas State Police, the Hoxie Police Department was notified at approximately 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2026, that a body had been found on property adjacent to the parking lot of People’s Faith Tabernacle Church, 1202 Sullens Road in Hoxie.
Authorities identified the deceased as James Frey, 34, of Salem, Arkansas.
At the request of the Hoxie Police Department, special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are investigating Frey’s death.
Frey’s body is being transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where officials will work to determine both the cause and manner of death.
As of Wednesday afternoon, August 12, Arkansas State Police had not announced a cause of death, identified any suspects or released additional circumstances surrounding the discovery. The investigation remains ongoing.

Hoxie Police were notified around 3:15 Tuesday afternoon that a body had been discovered on property adjacent to the parking lot of People’s Faith Tabernacle Church on Sullens Road.
The victim has been identified as 34-year-old James Frey of Salem.
At the request of Hoxie Police, special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division are handling the investigation.
Frey’s body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory to determine the cause and manner of death.
