A Hazen man was killed Monday morning after his vehicle left Interstate 40 and struck a bridge pier in Lonoke County, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary fatal crash report.

The crash happened at approximately 10:42 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2026, on Interstate 40 eastbound near mile marker 179.
Arkansas State Police identified the driver as 67-year-old Michael Wayne Mitchell of Hazen.
According to the preliminary report, Mitchell was driving a 2013 Nissan east on I-40 when the vehicle left the left side of the roadway and entered the median.
The Nissan continued traveling east through the median before striking a bridge pier at the Northcutt Road overpass.
Mitchell was killed in the crash. No other injuries were listed in the preliminary report.
Arkansas State Police reported that weather conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.
Mitchell’s body was held at the Lonoke County Coroner’s Office, and authorities reported that his next of kin had been notified.
Arkansas State Police Trooper Andrew Garrison investigated the crash.
The incident is listed by Arkansas State Police as Fatal Crash Number 270 and Accident Number 258 for 2026.
