Smoke filled the air, grills stayed hot throughout the day, and friendly competition was on full display as the inaugural Trenton Morgan Memorial Steak and Chicken Wing Cook Off made its successful debut Saturday, July 18, during the annual Cave City Watermelon Festival.
The first-year event attracted talented grill masters, community supporters, sponsors, volunteers, and festival visitors to Cave City Park for a day of food, fellowship, and competition, while raising money for the Cave City Watermelon Festival’s Next Generation Scholarship Program, which helps local students pursue higher education.
Organizers hailed the inaugural event as a tremendous success and say it exceeded expectations, creating what they hope will become a long-standing tradition for the festival.
Grill Masters Battle for Top Honors
Competitors spent hours preparing their entries as judges evaluated each submission based on taste, tenderness, appearance, and overall quality in both the chicken wing and steak divisions.
Chicken Wing Competition Results
The inaugural Chicken Wing Competition crowned the following winners:

Steak Competition Results
The steak competition featured outstanding entries from several talented cooks, with Jeremy Johnson and Jordan Smith putting together one of the day’s strongest performances.

Supporting Local Students
Beyond the trophies and bragging rights, the cook off served a larger purpose by benefiting the Cave City Watermelon Festival’s Next Generation Scholarship Program, which provides educational opportunities for local students.
Festival officials say the event combined community spirit with charitable giving, allowing competitors and spectators alike to support future generations while enjoying one of Arkansas’ signature summer festivals.
